Because I Know People Care About This Stuff

While I was supposed to be paying attention in Bio class night, I instead decided to participate in a draft for fantasy baseball (whoohoo wireless access). I know, my dedication to education is awe inspiring.

I've won 1st place 3 out of the 4 years that I've played in this league, somehow I don't think that's going to happen this year. Here's who I got:
C: Brian McCann
1B: Adrian Gonzalez
2B: BJ Upton
SS: Hanley Ramirez, Derek "Skeet Skeet" Jeter
3B: Adrian Beltre
OF: Carlos Beltran, Nick Swisher, Jeff Francoeur, Melky Cabrera, Andre Ethier
SP: Carlos Zambrano, Phil Hughes, Derek Lowe, Mike Hampton, John Lester, Yovani Gallardo
RP: Matt Capps, Joakim Soria, Troy Percival

My lineup is good, not great. I'm OK for power but I'm short on speed. I'm going to do everything in my power to dump Jeter on some Yankee homer, there's one in every league. My starting pitching is "meh." I really blew it on the relief pitching, I got the 25 save poo-poo platter. But it's my experience that hitting wins this league. What do you guys think?

* - I realize talking about this makes me not only a dork, but now, a gay dork.

You want to dump Jeter? One of the best offensive players in the league, and you want to dump him because... No seriously, I'm legitimately curious about your logic here.

Red - I fail to see how you can call him "one of the best offensive players in the league." I'm legitimately worried about your sanity. I know you're a Yankees homer, but there's about 5 guys that I would take ahead of Jeter at the SS position, not mention many other guys that would much more valuable offensively than he, albeit at other roster spots. You're getting, at best, .315/15/80/100/15 out of him. The only thing that carries any value there that you couldn't find easily replaceable is the 100 runs. If you were talking the '98-01 Jeter, you might have a point.

What really pissed me off is where I ended up picking him, I meant to grab a #1-2 type pitcher and ended up with his overrated ass in the 4th round. What a fuck up. He would have been available in the 8th round probably. That's the other thing.

Rebuttal?

Harry - It's apparently much, much, much too late for that now.

Swisher could have a real good year for the White Sox. Also I have Upton and Adrian Gonzalez on my fantasy team. Those are solid picks. As for speed, I bet you can find some solid free agents or young guys on the verge of a breakout year ie Chris Young of AZ. Or look for a trade for some speedy guys that go late in drafts like Orlando Cabrera or Juan Pierre. You might be able to get them cheap.
